Social Network Analysis Using Cytoscape

Please join us on October 27th, from 3-5 pm, for our third workshop in the “Tinkering Humanist” series. Social network analysis is one of the growing areas in Digital Humanities research. Scholars and teachers are increasingly looking for easy-to-use software to visualize connections and relationships. In this workshop, you will learn the basic theory behind social network analysis including how to generate and insert data. We will create visualizations of some data provided by the instructor or you can bring your own! We will conclude by considering the pedagogical possibilities of social network analysis for the humanities classroom.

Please register here (although it is not required to attend): HERE

Location: Obermann Center

Materials: laptop computer

The Tinkering Humanist-Versions and Versioning with Juxta http://iowadigitalbridges.com/the-tinkering-humanist-versions-and-versioning-with-juxta/ http://iowadigitalbridges.com/the-tinkering-humanist-versions-and-versioning-with-juxta/#respond Tue, 04 Oct 2016 13:47:49 +0000 http://iowadigitalbridges.com/?p=1475 screen-shot-2016-10-10-at-3-39-59-pm

In our second workshop, we cover Versions and Versioning with Juxta.

Scholarly editions have witnessed a radical transformation in the digital age. Whereas traditional “versioning”–the comparison of multiple versions of a text–relied on the limitations of the print format, digital editions allow more fluid and nimble presentation of
the transformation of a text over time. We will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of such digital versioning considering a project of the instructor as a case study. In the workshop, we will create a “version” of Virginia Woolf’s short story “The Mark on the Wall” from primary documents provided in advance. You will learn the basics of versioning using the Juxta Commons platform, and we will discuss the pedagogical uses of such software for student projects.
Thursday, Oct. 13th, 3-5, in Main Library 1015 A. No technical expertise required.
