DESCRIPTION:April 17th\, 10 am-12am\nUniversity of Iowa Main Library\nRoom 2032\n\nIn the "Book Traces Scavenger Hunt" workshop led by Andrew Stauffer\, groups will search a given section of the Main Library stacks (usually PR and PS call numbers)\, looking for interesting marks by original owners in older books. Many books from the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries will include interesting marginalia\, flower pressings\, locks of hair\, and other objects pressed among the pages. Groups will bring back their best examples to a central “command center\,” where they will examine them together\, upload some to Book Traces\, and have a discussion about what groups are finding. Sometimes the press comes and takes pictures (lots of good opportunities to document student engagement with books).
