February 2, 2018 - February 4, 2018
Event Navigation
A talk and workshop with Dr. Rebecca Wingo, Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Liberal Arts at Macalester College, (PhD, History, University of Nebraska-Lincoln), author of Homesteading the Plains: Toward a New History (University of Nebraska Press, 2017).
The History Harvest is a community-based, student-driven archive project. Members of a community partner group bring artifacts of significance and trained students record their stories and digitize the artifacts for an online archive. In class, students edit audio, establish metadata, and upload the items to Omeka, an archival content management system that can create online exhibits. Rather than donating the artifacts, the community members get to both share them and take them back home afterwards. The one-day event, then, is a bit like Antiques Roadshow, except that everything is valuable.
Public talk: February 2, 4-5:30pm. Burling Library, Grinnell
(NOTE TIME CHANGE): Workshop (registration required): February 3, noon-2pm. DLab, Grinnell Forum
